This past weekend we flew out to see Dr. Gearhart at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Our trip there was a little more difficult than it was supposed to be but we made it. Our flight from KC to Newark got cancelled so we had to take a flight to LaGuardia in NYC. Mimi had to get a driver for us because she didn't know how to get there and your first trip to LaGuardia shouldn't be at 11:00 p.m. We landed and had what anyone from here in the midwest would call a typical New Yorker driving us to Pennington, NJ. He even said "Forget About It", but in that New Yorker dialect. Since one of the bridges had construction he had to drive us through Harlem to get through Manhattan, so now we can say we were in Harlem around midnight. We finally got to Mimi's house about 2:00 a.m. and didn't get much sleep that night.
On Friday we headed over to Uncle Jer and Aunt Mel's house to see them and all of the cousins; Bryce, Cayden and Clara. We were able to play there all day long and had a great time. Friday evening we headed to Baltimore because we had to be at the hospital by 6:00 a.m. on Saturday. This appointment was so Dr. Gearhart could reevaluate the size of Robbie's bladder to see if it was big enough to be put away this summer. In order to evalute the bladder Robbie had to be put to sleep, hence the reason we had to be there so early for a 7:30 a.m. appointment.
Everyone was very excited to hear that Robbie's bladder is big enough and it will be able to be finally but back where it belongs this summer. Dr. Gearhart was booked up through September but when we told him that we only get 10 days of vacation and then get docked pay after that he said he would squeeze us in this summer since we will be in the hospital for probably 8 weeks. We are still waiting to hear from his secretary on when we will be able to get booked but we are hoping that it happens sooner than later.
Thank you so much for everyones thoughts and prayers, as they have helped our little boy out so much. We are hoping by this fall to have a little guy that doesn't have to worry about a body part that is supposed to be inside being on the outside. We will definitely keep everyone updated once we find out about the surgery date.
Great to hear that good news! I've never been to New York City--but I can only imagine. Hoping for a convenient surgery date; praying for a flexible operating room schedule! Always thinking of you guys...Enjoy your summer! "Dr. B."
